VCU at the 2025 National ACDA Conference
A packed audience awaits the next performance at the 2025 National ACDA Conference in Dallas, Texas. The stunning concert hall, complete with pipe organ and tiered seating, hosted top choral ensembles from across the country during a week of inspiring music and collaboration.
It was a joy to travel to Dallas, Texas for the 2025 National Conference of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA). Representing VCUarts Music, I spent four incredible days packed with concerts, clinics, reunions, and meaningful conversations about the future of choral music.
Each day was filled with back-to-back performances, and the final evening wrapped up with concerts running late into the night. From demonstrating choirs to world-class ensembles, the level of musicianship on display was extraordinary. Congratulations to all of the Southern Region ACDA ensembles who were featured!
One of the highlights of the week was connecting with VCU alumni from across the country. Sarah Hendricks (Executive Director for Development at VCUarts) and I hosted a special VCU gathering in Dallas, and it was wonderful to hear about all the exciting work our graduates are doing. There’s something truly special about the shared bond of the VCUarts Music family, and I’m always encouraged to see how far our alumni have carried the spirit of community and excellence.
Outside of the conference sessions, I made time to explore Dallas. The city’s architecture, walk-ability, and warm people were a delight. From the contemporary skyline to the local food and culture, it was a fantastic backdrop for this year’s conference. I especially enjoyed strolling through downtown before the daily schedule kicked in; my walk gave me a chance to reflect and recharge before diving into the day’s events.
Whether it was catching up with colleagues, cheering on student performers, or taking part in thoughtful discussions on the future of our art form, this year’s national ACDA conference was a reminder of what makes our choral community so powerful: connection, collaboration, and the shared joy of singing.
Until next time, ACDA: thank you for another unforgettable experience!
