Past Events and Projects
A Celebration of Black Excellence (ACOBE). The purpose of the project was to provide a space for all people to participate in celebrating Black music, art, and culture--past present, and future. The project attempted to provide an opportunity for communities to unite in the celebration of culture that spans multiple mediums, genres, and continents. At the end of the annual ACOBE festival each year, the community choir sings Richard Smallwood's 'Total Praise.' Due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, the 2022 ACOBE Festival was not able to be in-person, so instead it was a virtual experience. Dr. Christopher Hansen, along with his dear friend Jordan Lee, collaborated to create a virtual choir performance of 'Total Praise.' The collaboration included school, professional, and community organizations (i.e. Notes-for-Notes, select Guilford County Schools, the Anderson University Choir, etc.). This virtual choir performance was presented at the conclusion of the 2022 ACOBE Virtual Experience.
